Krabs in the game just doesn’t feel as faithful to the source material. Krabs sounds nothing like the original while it sounds “piratey,” it’s not as over-the-top or as accented as Brown’s voice, and because of this Mr. Whyte does an okay job playing Mermaid Man, however his performance of Mr. Krabs, with both being played by Joe Whyte instead of Clancy Brown and Ernest Borgnine respectively. The only notable omissions are Mermaid Man and Mr. The performances are spectacular, and again contribute to that feeling of playing an actual episode of the show. The voice acting is one of my favorite aspects of the game, reprising most of the show’s talent as well as throwing in some fun characters that’ve only made a few appearances, such as Bubble Buddy and the Flying Dutchman. I think you learn to appreciate the show’s absurdist humor as you get older, and there were plenty of moments where I was giggling over juvenile jokes if you don’t like potty humor or cartoons in general, then this game isn’t for you. Something that surprised me is just how well the game holds up with its presentation, as it felt like a classic SpongeBob episode in spirit. Because of this, the robots go against him and proceed to cause chaos all over the city, so it’s SpongeBob’s job to put a stop to the madness. By creating a machine made for duplicating killer robots, he hopes to rule over Bikini Bottom, but he forgot to switch the machine so that they would obey him.

While I owe a lot of my childhood to SpongeBob, Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated is more or less a so-so remake of a decent 3D platformer, which is about as expected for a seventeen-year-old licensed game fueled by nostalgia.īattle for Bikini Bottom starts like any SpongeBob episode: with Plankton causing havoc. I don’t feel that strongly to the game as some others have, so when Rehydrated was announced, I was excited to both revisit my childhood and experience something that I never got to play.

However, even though I owned a multipack of PC SpongeBob games including it, I never played Battle for Bikini Bottom. Hell, I think the first video game I ever owned was Lights, Camera, Pants! on my Game Boy Advance.

I would watch it every day, had at least one SpongeBob-themed birthday party, and owned a lot of the toys. I was a Nickelodeon kid, not a Cartoon Network kid, so to say that I grew up with SpongeBob would be an understatement.
